About the art of J. Loren Reedy . . .
In my paintings I strive to capture that which drew me to the subject. It may be a view that is colorful, bright and gay, or peaceful and meditative. Patterns and shapes often fascinate me. Intriguing compositions of light and shadow provide satisfying challenges. Of course a single subject may present multiple elements which compel me to undertake a painting. Attempting to suggest the rhythm of urban life has become a recent motivation. Sometimes my work is precise, almost photographic. Other times I express myself with loose, energetic brushstrokes. In each painting I hope to provoke in the viewer a shared vision of a moment in time, a mutual appreciation of the world around us.
