"The colors and composition of several of his pieces really caught my eye. Even though there was an impressionist look to his canvases, there was also a quality of realism. . . . I believe that in the future you will be hearing great things about J. Loren Reedy and if you have the chance to purchase his work now you may be well rewarded in the future. In fact Mr. Reedy’s work should be among your artists to watch and he would love to talk to you . . ."

Why I Make Art

I paint to satisfy the human need to create. I happen to be a person with a strong visual sense. My need to express myself creatively first took form through photography, then evolved to painting in oils.

My art expresses the many moods of where I find myself at the moment – whether it be subtropical Hawai’i with its slow, easy pace or temperate Chicago with its energetic 24 hour bustle.

I draw my inspiration from the vitality of everyday life.

I am a self-taught artist. With the exception of three five-day plein-air workshops and one college art class, I have had no structured art training.

To satisfy my need for diversity I paint in a representational style that ranges from impressionistic to realistic. And I enjoy painting a variety of subjects – seascapes, figures, landscapes and especially urban or cityscapes. Each of these subjects presents a unique set of challenges.

I am inspired by the beauty or mood of a place, still life, and the dynamism of urban life. These are my subjects.

Painting fulfills my need for creative expression. People enjoy my art, I am told, because it enriches their life experience in some small but meaningful way.

Buyers from Alaska to Florida and New England to Hawai’i have purchased and enjoy my art in their homes and work
places.
